♟️ About Us: Chess Brings Lüdenscheid Together

Over 100 years of chess history. A new club. Plenty of new ideas.

Chess has a long tradition in Lüdenscheid. After the former chess club dissolved at the end of 2024, we made a fresh start with Schach Lüdenscheid e.V.

We want to bring together people who enjoy chess. Young or old, beginner or experienced tournament player: what matters to us is enthusiasm for the game, not playing strength.

🎯 Turning Ideas into Club Life

Our club is already up and running.

In September 2026, we organised the Lüdenscheid City Chess Championship at Phänomenta. Since the 2026/27 season, our own team has been competing in league matches.

Our activities also include casual games, training sessions, chess for children and young people, and cooperation with schools and educational institutions.

We also want to make chess more visible beyond our club and spark curiosity about this fascinating game.

The positive response to our events and activities shows us that we are on the right track. We particularly appreciate the support of our partners and sponsors, whose commitment helps turn ideas into real opportunities.

💡 Respecting Tradition, Exploring New Ideas

Chess doesn't require much: a board, 32 pieces and two people. But being part of a club today can offer far more than a weekly chess evening.

That's why we combine personal interaction with digital opportunities:

  • Online chess puzzles and training resources
  • Digital tools for tournaments and club activities
  • Modern communication and club organisation
  • Joint projects where members can contribute their own ideas

Our website is designed to do more than provide information. It should help share club responsibilities among more people, connect members and make it easier for everyone to get involved.

🌱 Learning Skills for Life

A club is a small-scale reflection of society. Getting involved teaches us much more than what happens on the chessboard.

Organising an event, making decisions together, taking responsibility, working with public authorities, schools and other organisations, applying for funding, managing finances or attracting sponsors: club life brings us face to face with many of the challenges we encounter in everyday life.

We learn to consider different interests, find compromises, deal with disagreements and develop solutions together. We experience how democratic decisions are made, what cooperation really means and how our own efforts can turn an idea into reality.

For young people in particular, this is an opportunity to discover and develop skills that will benefit them later in education, work and society. Adults, too, can learn new things, share their experience and develop abilities they may never have explored before.

A club provides a place to take responsibility, make mistakes, learn from them and grow.

And perhaps most importantly, we discover that our own actions can make a difference.

🤝 A Club for Every Generation

Chess has no age limit.

Children discover the game, young people develop their skills, adults enjoy competition, and older people find both mental stimulation and companionship through chess.

We particularly want to encourage girls and women to discover chess for themselves.

Respect, mutual support and the enjoyment of playing together are just as important to us as victories and league standings.

🙋 Get Involved, Make a Difference

You don't have to be a strong chess player to be welcome here.

We welcome people who want to play, learn, coach, organise events, support young players or simply contribute their own ideas to club life.

No one has to do everything. But together, we can achieve a great deal.
